The Murray Plains Electorate

The Electoral district of Murray Plains is an electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly in Australia. It was created in the redistribution of electoral boundaries in 2013, and came into effect at the 2014 state election.

It is a new rural electorate located in Northern Victoria and created due to the abolition of the districts of Swan Hill and Rodney. Murray Plains has an area of 11,921 square kilometres. It is centered on the Murray River cities of Swan Hill and Echuca, and includes communities in the Swan Hill, Gannawarra, Loddon, Campaspe and City of Greater Shepparton local government areas.

The District stretches along the Murray River from the Goulburn junction to north of Swan Hill. Irrigation farming is important in the district, focusing in the south-east on dairy farming and in the north-west on fruit growing. In the west of the District are large expanses of dryland farming. Natural features include the Gunbower Forest and lakes between Kerang and Lake Boga. Tourism plays a significant role in contributing to the local economy and supporting local business.

Towns of the Murray Plains Electorate include Beverford, Boort, Cohuna, Echuca, Gunbower, Kerang, Koondrook, Koyuga, Kyabram, Ky Valley, Lake Boga, Lake Charm, Lalbert, Leitchville, Lockington, Mitiamo, Murrabit, Nyah, Nyah West, Pyramid Hill, Quambatook, Rochester, Swan Hill, Tongala, Torrumbarry and Ultima.
